NATIONAL CONVENTION OF SAMYUKTA MORCHA OF ANGANWADI FEDERATIONS

The National Convention of the Samyukta Morcha of Anganwadi Federations, held on 24th December, 2010, in the Gandhi Peace Foundation in Delhi called upon all anganwadi workers and helpers in the country to participate en masse in the ‘March to Parliament’ of the central trade unions on 23rd February, 2011. The Convention also decided to organise a massive dharna near Parliament on 24th February 2011 on the specific demands of anganwadi employees.

Around 200 anganwadi workers and helpers belonging to the four central trade unions – AITUC, CITU, HMS and INTUC – who came together to constitute the Samyukta Morcha of Anganwadi Employees’ Federations participated in the convention and unanimously adopted a declaration to that effect. The convention’s presidium consisted of S Vijayalakshmi (AITUC), Neelima Maitra (CITU), Girish Pandey (HMS) and Shashi Kapoor (INTUC). Amarjeet Kaur (AITUC) welcomed the delegates. Hemalata (CITU) introduced the draft declaration, which was seconded by Shashi Kapoor. Amarjeet Kaur and Saroj from AITUC, Usha Rani and Saroj Sharma from CITU, Champa Varma and Usha Tyagi from HMS, and Sunita Vinayak and Anasooya Sharma from INTUC spoke in support of the Declaration. Girish Pandey proposed the vote of thanks.

The Convention decided to meet the Union Finance Minister in a delegation and submit a memorandum on the demands of anganwadi employees in January 2011.
