Ours is the largest trade union of the coal workers in India. Its membership is about 50,000. This organisation functions mainly in the coalmines of Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, under Raniganj Coalfields in West Bengal and some areas of Jharkhand. It is in the forefront of the movement of coalmine workers in India.

A meeting of the All India Coordination Committee of ASHA workers was held on 8th September 2012 at BTR Bhawan in New Delhi. Sixteen members from seven states-Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tripura and UP- participated in the meeting. Earlier, on August 22nd , a smaller meeting was held in Hyderabad, attended by 8 members from AP, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tripura and West Bengal.
11th National Congress of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU), held during 17-20 September, 2012, was attended by 2934 delegates, representing 19 industries and services of South Africa, and 500 fraternal delegates from 25 countries of different continents and special invitees. Delegation included several top leaders of African National Congress (ANC) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) who also attended throughout and participated in discussion as delegates. Both trade union internationals - WFTU and ITUC - were present with delegations led by respective general secretaries George Mavrikos (WFTU) and Sharon Barow (ITUC) and both addressed the Congress for equal duration. I attended as a WFTU delegate.
MORE than seven hundred delegates representing nearly five lakh anganwadi workers and helpers declared in one voice “Scheme ke naam par dhoka nahin chalega” (We won’t allow the cheat in the name of schemes). The seventh all India conference of AIFAWH held from October 4-7 in Thiruvananthapuram gave a clarion call to join enmasse in the Mahapadav of scheme workers to be held on November 26-27, 2012. The conference resolved to join in large numbers in all the struggles called by the central trade unions, including the two days countrywide general strike on February 20-21, 2012.
