Ours is the largest trade union of the coal workers in India. Its membership is about 50,000. This organisation functions mainly in the coalmines of Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, under Raniganj Coalfields in West Bengal and some areas of Jharkhand. It is in the forefront of the movement of coalmine workers in India.

STRIKE & PROTEST AGAINST DISINVESTMENT OF COAL INDIA SHARES
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions and the All India Coal Workers’ Federation India have issued the following statement on October 13:
THE All India Coal Workers’ Federation (CITU) stands firm in its opposition against the proposed decision of Coal India to disinvest 10 per cent of its equity to private companies. The Federation calls for nationwide agitation programmes all through the three days from October 18 onwards when initial public offer would open. The programme will include strikes, demonstrations, work to rule and all such activities voicing the strong disapproval of the entire workforce in coal industry against the disastrous ploy of disinvestment in Coal India. The All India Coal Workers’ Federation also supports the separate call issued by the HMS and BMS led federations calling for a nationwide strike on October 18 on the same issue.
