THE All India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) has expressed its deep sense of anguish and shock over the massive victimisation of government employees in Bihar who were on a strike since August 23, 2010, for realisation of their genuine and long pending demands.
It has been learnt that criminal cases have been instituted against about 2200 employees of the Bihar government and they are being seriously harassed by the state government. In addition, in one district, suspension orders have been served on 32 employees.
These employees went on a strike as their last resort when their repeated appeals and agitations went in vain and the government remained completely indifferent in the matter of settling their long standing demands.
Through a letter written by Sukomal Sen, former member of parliament and senior vice chairman of the All India State Government Employees Federation to the Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on January 7, the federation has described the policy of the state government as deplorable as it chose to take vindictive actions against the employees instead of settling the issues across the table.
This action of the Bihar government against the employees has, the letter noted, angered more than 70 lakh employees of the country whose state level organisations are affiliated to the All India State Government Employees Federation.
Meeting at Dhanbad in Jharkhand on January 4-5, 2011, the national executive of the All India State Government Employees Federation resolved to firmly stand by the victimsed employees of Bihar and start agitations in every state demanding withdrawal of the punitive measures against them.
In the circumstances, the AISGEF has strongly urged the chief minister to personally intervene in the matter so that all punitive measures are immediately withdrawn, the strike period is regularised and the employees’ salaries are disbursed. The federation has also urged the chief minister to solve the long standing demands amicably and with delay.
